Old Town Square Hotel

Our balcony room was fantastic. We spent time out there every day, even in November, watching everything happening across the square. The apartments are well maintained, and the staff are tremendously helpful. You’re right in the middle of the square, which makes this a great base for Prague’s main tourist sights. It won’t suit you if you want a quiet getaway, and the many stairs with no elevator make it a poor fit if stairs are a problem.

The rooms are huge, but there’s no housekeeping unless you stay longer than five days. Checking in is a little awkward because you have to go to their sister hotel farther down the road, and dragging bags over the cobblestones is hard. On checkout, there’s no lift, so you have to carry your luggage down one level. Staff from one of the hotels will help on arrival, though. The old town location is right in the middle of everything, which also means crowds, and light sleepers may wake to the astronomical clock chimes.

We found the apartment clean and comfortable, and the location was great. They also left us a bottle of wine for my birthday, which was a thoughtful touch. A few things could work better: the old keys open four doors, but there’s only one, so a few times one of us got stuck outside. I was also worried the worn keys might break in the lock. Check-in and checkout mean walking to the main hotel, which is inconvenient with luggage. Maybe the bellman could use an electric scooter or something.

We love staying in a junior suite at Old Town Square, and this was our second visit. The rooms are huge and comfortable, with modern, well-equipped bathrooms. From the bedroom window, the view over the old town square is magical in both summer and winter. Everything is within walking distance, and there’s a great pub restaurant downstairs. The staff were wonderful and especially attentive this time when we had a few minor issues. I hope to come back again.
