Thai Sun Hostel

The neighborhood is lively, and the hostel is close to attractions, restaurants, and public transport, which made getting around easy. The rooms were clean, though basic, and parts of them looked worn. They could make the stay better with some upgrades and more attention to comfort. Check-in was slower and less organized than I expected, so arrival got off to a slightly awkward start. Staff were friendly, but not especially attentive, and I would have appreciated more proactive help and local suggestions. The location gives Thai Sun Hostel a lot going for it. A smoother welcome, more attentive service, and improvements to the rooms would make it a much stronger choice.

We were treated terribly by the hostel staff, even though the location is good. Check-out was at noon, but they made us leave our room at 10 in the name of cleaning. We were told we could store our bags until 20:00, then the receptionist said we had to collect them by 16:30 because they were closing. When we sat at reception for just a minute, she told us to leave because she needed the space for clients. It felt like we were worth nothing unless we were there for the massage studio.

The room itself was nice, and I got a welcome upgrade to one with a private bathroom. There’s a kitchen too, plus a washer and dryer, though both were full when I visited. It was in the low 30s, and the windows had been left open, so the room was hot. Maybe they should keep them shut on hot days and let guests open them at night. Finding the place and getting the key was a bit of a hassle. Follow Google Maps to the address and look for the Thai Sun massage sign on the 3rd floor, which is the unofficial check-in. They give you the details at 3pm, and after that you can go straight to the 5th floor. You should have a code for door A, B, or C. Enter it at the matching door, then use the code for your room on the mini key safe behind the door to get your key. The worst part happened overnight. There was an older man sitting in the hallway by A, and I assumed he lived there. At some point he came into my room while I’d forgotten to lock the door and woke me. He came in again after I’d woken up, and I had to ask him to leave a second time before locking the door. I eventually found cold water in the fridge. It was a hot day, but that’s no excuse for someone to walk into my room in the middle of the night without permission.

A big plus is that they cleaned the hostel every morning, and the washer and dryer both worked perfectly. The location is hard to beat for tourists, just 20 meters from Wenceslas Square. We only found out that our triple room had no windows after arriving. There was no airflow, so we had to sleep with the door open. That worked for three men, but it seems like something women or families especially should be told beforehand. I’d recommend it for open minded people who want to meet others and aren’t planning a long stay. Solid 4/5, mainly because of the location.
