Chateau Kotera

The house has an interesting history, and the rooms have nice, unusual furniture. It’s a quiet place in a remote spot, with polite staff. There’s an outdoor pool, but no whirlpool. One odd thing: restaurant charges can’t be added to the room bill, so you have to pay each time you order or visit.

We borrowed bikes to reach a local pub about 4k away. It was a hilly ride and not the easiest, but the area is lovely to explore, and the chateau makes a good base. The pool was nice, and the restaurant was wonderful, with good service and tasty, well put together dishes. The main chateau has no AC, though there’s also a modern building with all amenities. A really nice spot for a weekend.

The price is great, and there were a few good points, like the comfortable bed and minibar prices that were more than reasonable. Still, it was a big disappointment. Online, the place looks luxurious, but that impression lasted until we reached reception and couldn’t find the receptionist. She then took us to a side building that had none of the unique architecture, and the modern-style room had carpet spots, a dirty siphon, and broken glass on the terrace. We had dinner in Kutná Hora, so I can’t comment on the kitchen. Breakfast was mediocre.

The food was reasonably priced for some items on the menu, and the taste was not too bad. The terrace ambience lost them a star because it wasn’t well maintained. Good value overall.
