Lomnice Hotel & Restaurant

The location is hard to beat: right in the middle of everything, with Yellow Point Ski hire next door, the bus stop outside, and restaurants and shops just seconds away. The front of house staff were also lovely. They worked long hours and still greeted us with a smile. The barmaid seemed to be doing the manager’s job, reception, and everything else, though, and seeing how stretched the staff were made it harder to raise problems. Our main frustration was the room service. We had four people in the third-floor apartment for six nights, while our eldest daughter stayed in a second-floor room. Her room was cleaned and the beds were made every day. In ours, the beds were made only once, and it took until day three to get fresh towels. On two days, the bins weren’t emptied, so we had to pile rubbish beside them. We left early on the first two days and were back at 1:45 when the cleaner arrived. We went out again so the room could be done, but came back hours later to find it still dirty. It seemed like the top floor was left until last, and the cleaner stopped at 2pm whether the rooms were finished or not. We paid over €3000 for the rooms, and the service fell short of what the in-room information book advertised. The kitchenette was poorly supplied for four people: two bowls, plates, glasses, knives and forks, and no towels for the kitchen. There were pans but no hob, and nothing suitable for heating food in the microwave. The utensils we had made it hard to put together even simple snacks. On New Year’s Eve, dogs in the second apartment barked for hours. The rules say dogs shouldn’t be left alone in rooms, but that seemed to have happened. We got back after midnight and first thought the noise was people in the hall. At 1:30am, the dogs were still barking and keeping the kids awake. I went downstairs to ask staff for help, but everyone had left and the ground floor was locked. I understand the staff work hard and need a break, but most hotels would have someone available for a situation like that. We didn’t sleep until after 2:30, then the dogs started up again at 8am. Everyone, kids and parents, was exhausted. It was a good stay in some ways, but there were major disappointments that we couldn’t really report at the time. We just did our best with the situation.
