The facade is lovely, and the hotel sits in a small historic town. The rooms were fine, though we’ve had better for less money. The trouble began at reception. The receptionist was exceptionally rude and refused to speak English, even though she could when she wanted to make her point. While we waited, we could see her attitude change depending on guests’ passports. She also seemed annoyed about our dog, despite the hotel being listed as pet friendly and our having told them in advance. She rolled her eyes and complained that we couldn’t just turn up with a dog, without checking our earlier conversation first. The dog fee was almost twice the amount quoted to me by email, and there was no price list to explain the difference. “It’s up to reception,” she said. At least this woman is the last person in the Czech Republic I’d call pet friendly.

The spa is worth booking ahead. It’s reserved for you and your family, with a limit of five people, and has a whirlpool, two kinds of sauna, and a relaxation area. They brought us water without being asked, which was thoughtful because it gets quite warm in there. We loved our special apartment, with its little tower-like medieval feature overlooking the square. It was handsome, roomy, and luxurious, with thick rugs and curtains, useful yet pretty furniture, a kettle and tea, minibar, robes, slippers, several pillow sizes, and branded soap and shampoo. The bed is huge and comfortable, though it might be too high for some. I brought small mattresses to cushion the sides in case our young son fell out. The sofa bed was sturdy and comfortable too. There’s also a large hallway living room just outside the apartment that could come in handy on a longer stay. Food is only served at breakfast, although they did bring us warm milk when we asked. Breakfast and coffee were nothing special, but that didn’t spoil the stay for me. I’d happily recommend the place and hope to return.

The buffet was pretty good, and the service was good too. My room was very nice and clean. It was my first stay here, and I hope it won’t be my last. I’m already looking forward to coming back.

A lovely surprise near Via Carolina. This comfortable old hotel is right on a beautiful historic square. The breakfast was huge, and the receptionists were nice. It’s clean and quiet, with wellness facilities, a gym, and parking.

We had a very comfortable, clean and spacious deluxe apartment, with a big turret looking out over the quaint town square. Breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly. A great little find in a quiet town.
