We ordered croquettes, svíčková (vegetable sauce with dumplings), ketchup and three lemonades for the three of us. It came to almost 600 czk. They charged 36 czk for ketchup that was practically water. The waiter was the worst I’ve ever dealt with. When we asked to split the bill, he said, “okay, so together,” and then, while I was paying my friend back, he took the money and said, “that will be the tip.” I’d never spend another crown there. Please don’t go. The restaurant itself isn’t in terrible shape, I’d just say it’s standing, nothing more.

The service was the worst we’ve had on any of our trips. Our food took so long that we eventually had to leave without eating, and then there was a big argument over paying for food that arrived far too late. The place felt like it had set us back 40 years to communism.

They only took cash, and we had to pay in Euros. That would have been fine if they hadn’t shortchanged us so badly. This place sounds like it needs to be shut down.

**Hotel / Restaurant U Černého Orla**, in the town of Telč. I’ll keep it short, though this review feels like a waste of time. I want to warn people about what I saw as an insulting, organized gang. We usually feel very much at home in the Czech Republic and have always found it hospitable. The country is beautiful, and Czech people are fantastic, much like the Dutch, except for a few. That’s what I’m talking about here. Telč itself is wonderful to walk around and visit, and the location is magnificent. It would be a lovely place to enjoy lunch or dinner, but I found nothing positive about this restaurant beyond its location. The service was bad and ill-mannered, and the waiter smelled sweet. We waited more than an hour, and some customers waited an hour and a half. The food was very salty and tasteless, and our fries were cold. It was far too expensive for what we got. Communication was bad. They brought food in five-minute intervals, ten times over, so it took 50 minutes. All tourists, including Czech tourists, were put in the queue. It felt like tourists were being bullied, and they succeeded. Be warned, don’t go here. Choose another restaurant. The place to avoid is Hotel / Restaurant U Černého Orla in Telč.

The rooms are simple, but you’re staying in a beautiful, very historic old building with a lovely patio. Breakfast was good, and the place was clean and well located. We’d read all the complaints about rude service and were worried, but our waiter was outstanding and personable. He was funny and entertaining too. Maybe the staff has changed. Don’t be afraid to stay or eat here.
