Penzion Taferna

Our room was huge when we stayed on 27th July, though there wasn’t a kettle or coffee setup. We sat in the garden with a pint of rebel and ordered from a varied menu. The food came freshly cooked, hot, and excellent. We had our dog with us, and they gave him water, both then and again in the evening after we’d been out for the day. We’re both looking forward to coming back soon.

After a lovely day out, we tried the restaurant and were very pleased. The staff didn’t really speak English, but that aside, it was great, and most importantly, the food was delicious.

We stop here whenever we drive past Zdar, at least 3-4 times a year, and it never lets us down. The food is tasty and the staff are friendly. The interior has the charm of an old Czech krčma.

We took a short, very scenic detour on our drive from Krakow to Prague and stopped for lunch with a group, partly because one of us had a family connection here. The meal was the best of our whole 10-day European trip. The service was terrific, the schnitzel the best I’ve ever had, and the beer was poured perfectly at just the right temperature. The building is several hundred years old and immaculately preserved. We stayed long enough to take photos of the amazing sculptures on the bridge and visit the nearby Church of St. John, which deservedly has UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
