B&B Hotel Aachen-City

The stay itself was fine, but I wish staff had handled one small situation more thoughtfully. My friend was struggling with the coffee machine, which wouldn’t accept notes, and no one was at reception, so he called me down. I went barefoot for a minute to help and a staff member appeared, telling me to put shoes on because some people at the hotel didn’t like it. I found that unreasonable as a paying guest, especially since there was no clear rule posted. If barefoot walking in common areas isn’t allowed, the hotel should say so clearly. Guests come from different countries and have different comfort preferences. I followed the request, went upstairs for shoes, then checked out later. I couldn’t find that staff member to share this feedback in person, so I’m leaving it here.

The reception service was amazing and multilingual, and the room was spacious and comfortable, with a cozy bed, separate blankets, and a private bathroom. I found the PIN entry much handier than a card, and there was even beer in the vending machine. It’s close to some of Europe’s most intense history and there’s great food nearby. I’ve spent almost six months trying to get back the money for a breakfast charge I paid twice, and still haven’t received a refund. During a work trip, I paid for the room and breakfast at check-in, but the next morning a staff member asked me to pay for breakfast again. They printed an invoice, which I only later noticed was in someone else’s name. Since then I’ve emailed and called many times. The whole thing has been extremely frustrating and unprofessional.

I like the clever car-elevator calling system, and the housekeeping staff work really hard. Rooms are small but practical, and B&B Aachen is comfortable and well placed in the beautiful city of Aachen. Breakfast is basic and rather pricey, though it fits the hotel’s environmental approach. It can get crowded, with lots of people at reception. I’ll definitely come back as long as the elevator is running. This time it was out of order for a whole week.
