Hotel-Gaststätte Franke

The food was delicious, but there was a lot left over after our Christmas market meal. Since we’d already paid for the twelfth meal even though one of our twelve had fallen ill and only eleven of us came, we thought it would cost about €2-3 to pack up the leftovers. Instead, we were told each of the three containers would cost €8.50, so we left the food behind. It felt very strange and disappointing, and I still wonder whether it was all thrown away. I think about sustainability differently. I raised it with the Dutch-speaking waiter, but he said he couldn’t decide because those were the house rules. We often visit Alstätte as a group, but I don’t think we’ll eat here as a group again.

We waited nearly 45 minutes for starters: the goulash soup was far too salty, and the bruschetta had a strange taste. The main dishes took a long time too. The schnitzel was small and bland; the lamb steak tasted good, but the portion was tiny. Nothing came with them, no fries or salad, and those had to be ordered separately. Even then, for two people there was just one little ketchup sachet and one mayonnaise sachet. Not a nice experience, and we won’t be back.

We celebrated our anniversary tonight at Gasthof Franke in Alstatte. The staff were really friendly, and we both had the house schnitzel, delicious as always. Thanks, Anita and Christian. Highly recommend it if you want good schnitzel and more.

Clean rooms, lovely food, and amazing service. What else could you ask for? Thank you so much ❤️ !!!
