The rooms could use a bit of a refresh, but I had a really memorable stay. I was there for just one night, and it was a one-of-a-kind experience. The owl and falcon sanctuary next door is well worth a visit too.

Such a peaceful, lovely area, and the hiking around there is great. I came for a day trip rather than staying at the hotel. The Burg tour is only offered in German; I know a little, and still enjoyed it. The cave was closed when I visited, so I’m hoping to come back and see it.

Tobi (Hagen von Rabenstein) really brought the place’s history to life on our tour. He knew loads of facts and made it lively and interactive, taking the extra time to explain things to us in English. Thanks, Tobi von und zu Rabenstein. Long live Tobi!

There’s plenty of reason to come back during the year, with events like medieval markets, dinner shows and whiskey tastings. On the visit itself, the castle is the main attraction, with beautiful views inside and out. You can buy tickets at the entrance, though they recommend booking online. Tours are in German only, but I still think it’s worth going. The castle is still used as a lovely hotel, with a great restaurant inside; there’s also a restaurant and falconry show just outside, and parking is free. A hidden gem and definitely a must-see if you’re nearby.

The service was very thoughtful, and our guide was charming. The tour was interesting and just the right length, it didn’t drag on.
