Pension & Restaurant " Zum Harzer Jodlermeister"

The terrace at the restaurant looked out over the river and made for a really relaxing spot. We enjoyed the food, from desserts to lunch and dinner, and the staff and owner were very friendly. The buffet breakfast was good, with vegetables, yogurt, cereal, a boiled egg, and a wide selection of cheeses and meats. The guesthouse isn't modern, but it has charm and character. Our bed and bathroom were clean on arrival and cleaned daily. The beautiful surroundings were great for hiking. We enjoyed our stay and recommend it.

My husband enjoyed his schnitzel, and my Forelle was fried nicely, with crispy skin. It was fish caught in the river below, and so delicious. The restaurant has a beautiful view, with the river running beneath it. There are maybe a few too many menus to choose from. Staff were very friendly, brought drinks quickly, and cleared tables promptly. The food took a while, but that's a good sign it wasn't prepared in advance. A final shot of Schierke's famous herbal liquor was a nice touch.

The room was nice and the service friendly, but I didn't like being charged for every little thing, like €1.55 for WiFi access. The restaurant wasn't very good. The trout was fine, but the sides and salad weren't up to standard.

They adapted the meal for allergies when asked, and the staff were helpful. The meat was delicious and very tender, while the vegetables were soft and tasty, with great sauces.
