We only got to stay one night, unfortunately. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the staff really friendly, and breakfast had everything we needed. There’s also a big playground close to the hotel, which matters when you’re traveling with kids.

The restaurant food was delicious, but I waited more than an hour for my meal. The sauna is very nice, though it stays off until you go down and switch it on yourself, and then takes about an hour to warm up. My room was spacious, but it had no mini fridge, teapot, or window blinds. There seemed to be lots of new employees who didn’t know the hotel well, and many didn’t speak English. At the front desk, they seemed too busy to give me an overview of the hotel. Overall, it wasn’t a pleasant stay.

Really good value, with friendly staff, a comfortable stay, and a good breakfast. The hotel is about a 20-minute walk from the centre of Amberg.

The decor is a real pleasure too. The owner and her daughter have a knack for it, with eclectic little arrangements in every corner and seasonal changes. I’m sure I’ve forgotten something, but we’d stay here again and again. It’s a family-run hotel, and you can feel the care and effort they put into it. We first stopped overnight on the way to Prague because the drive was too much for one day. We liked it so much that we booked another night for the return trip. I’d forgotten my Europe adapter plug, and Nick lent me one to take to Prague. When we came back a week later, lots of restaurants were closed, but Vito kindly went into the kitchen and made us a lovely cheese and meat platter. We ate at the restaurant for dinner both times. The food and service felt like fine dining, and the chef brought us a complimentary amuse-bouche each time. There was enough variety on the menu that you could try something new every day for a week. The rooms have an old-world style. Ours was on the first floor, with a small patio and a door leading straight outside. Guests can use the shared patio furniture. The setting is so peaceful, like an oasis with good food, lovely scenery, and a warm atmosphere. I can’t say enough good things about the place or the staff.
