The menu was clear and focused on regional food, and the meal itself was okay. They also had homemade cake and ice cream. But the service needs work. The waitress seemed untrained, got overwhelmed quickly, and lost track of the guests arriving. A lot of people weren't served and ended up leaving. There was a concert at the castle that evening, so demand was high, but empty reserved tables weren't made available, and she didn't seem to speed things up. She was friendly to us, although some of her comments to other guests were odd. For example, our table neighbors offered their table to people waiting to be seated, but they weren't allowed to sit there because the waitress might get "confused." We wanted to pay by card, but she charged the bill to cash without asking, which meant we were overcharged again. It feels like money is being thrown away here. With a sound concept and trained staff, the restaurant could build a good reputation. Concerts are held here regularly, and the Posthalterei is right on the way to the castle.

We were almost the only people there for a meal, and even so, the food arrived cold and was nearly all canned. The draft beer was bad, so we sent it back and were given a dark beer instead. They still charged us full price, with no discount. The prices were exorbitant for the atmosphere and quality, which felt completely out of touch. I was incredibly embarrassed for them. I hope they change the chef, lower the prices, or just close. This is unacceptable.

We only wanted ice cream on a warm day, like the other guests sitting outside with theirs. They told us they were short-staffed and wouldn't serve us any. It felt as if they only served their closest friends. Thanks, but we won't be back.

The restrooms were very nice, and lunch was a good stop during our Sunday bike tour in October. The menu has traditional Thuringian dishes, meat and dumplings, cooked in a typical regional style and tasting good. Prices felt fair for what you got, and the service was friendly and professional. We left well fed and carried on with our ride.
