I was disappointed by the hotel this time. My previous stay was much better. I paid the single supplement but was given a room with two single beds. There are no evening meals anymore, apparently because asbestos was found in the bierkeller, so you have to eat at the restaurant next door. There is technically a bar, but no staff to serve it. For a beer, you have to buy a bottle from the vending machine by the ground floor lift, then take it to the bar to use the bottle opener. There’s no proper bar service. The Erzgebirge itself is ace, and the local sights, including the narrow gauge railways, are great. The hotel was the letdown.

The room was in perfect condition, and I really liked this lovely vintage hotel. When I stayed, I could use the family sauna for free after making a simple reservation, though I’m not sure that service is still available. All the staff were friendly and gentle.

The rooms are comfortable, and the location is great, even though the hotel feels dated. Maybe we caught them at a bad time, but the staff were unpleasant and unfriendly, as if we were in their way. That was quite disappointing since they’d been super friendly on past visits.

The hotel was clean, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was very good, too.
