Schützenhof Artlenburg

Comfortable and simple.

The hostess was warm, friendly, and excellent, and both breakfast and the food were very good, with a nice selection, fair prices, and good service. The room's furnishings are dated, though, and I couldn't sleep because there were so many mosquitoes. I was passing through on the Elbe Cycle Path and stayed one night. It's a good place for a short stay.

Breakfast was generous, delicious, and excellent, but after the way we were treated on our second evening, we decided not to have dinner there. We were accused of being too noisy, as we had been the night before, though we honestly didn't know we'd done anything wrong. I understand that noisy guests can be irritating, but a more sympathetic approach would've been nice. We stayed a few nights at Gasthof Schützenhof, and the place was disappointing. The building is in poor shape, with a lot of maintenance overdue and signs of leaks along the walls. The stair railing was loose. We'd arranged for our driver to have a room with a bathroom, but that didn't happen, so he had to use the hallway shower, and there was no way to fix it. The rooms are basic, with a bed, wooden chair, table, and television. The bathroom is old but thankfully clean, though the paintwork there also needs a lot of attention. The rooms are very noisy, and I could literally hear my neighbors.
