das Hotel am alten Park

The place had a clinical feel, with a hospital-like look and smell, probably because of the private clinic next door. We stopped here for one night to rest after a long drive, and left disappointed. We’d booked a double room with one large bed but found two separate twin beds instead. At reception, they insisted that was their version of a “big bed.” It was 19:55 and reception closed at 20:00, and the staff seemed more concerned with finishing their shift than sorting out our concern. At checkout the next morning, the clerk didn’t even ask how the stay had been. I wouldn’t recommend it, even for one night.

Somehow connected with a religious organization, this is an unusual hotel. It was quiet with no crowds while we were there at Easter. The place was really clean, breakfast was really nice, and the views over the rooftops were lovely.

The location made it easy to get to both the station and the old town on foot. The rooms were clean and nicely put together, and the staff were capable and helpful.

Brauhaus Riegele is just across the street, which was a big plus for me since it’s my favorite brewery to date. The hotel is also a few hundred meters from the main train station, in a nice building with gardens and parking. Rooms are modern, clean, functional, well lit, and furnished in a modern style. The breakfast selection was a little underwhelming, but otherwise it was comfortable and very conveniently located.
