Ferienwohnung Reck

I was much more pleasantly surprised than I expected. Cafe Reck feels like it’s been there forever, so I was quite skeptical when I heard the Reck family no longer ran it. That skepticism turned out to be completely unfounded. The new owners are committed to keeping Upper Swabian traditions alive. I was especially struck that the cross is still on the wall, even though the owners are of Turkish descent. That’s quite remarkable. The food is delicious, the staff exceptionally friendly, and the rooms clean and welcoming, with comfortable beds. They were very accommodating about check-in and check-out times. I’ll be staying in Aulendorf more often, and since dogs are welcome, I’m sure I’ll return regularly.

I booked a room by phone for one night and arrived around 9 pm. They sent me to the house across the street, where someone greeted me politely in Turkish, I think. I was given room 7. It had what I needed, but everything felt rather makeshift. The glasses in both the bedroom and bathroom were dirty or already used. Light came through the glass door to the hallway all night, and that door needed a key. The whole operation seemed haphazard.

The accommodation is basic and a bit run-down, and it wasn’t very clean. Breakfast was very plain and had little flavour. Unfortunately, it seems more suited to mechanics than people on holiday.

I had to let the water run for at least a minute before the pressure started to rise, then another minute before it got hot. The room was dirty too, with hair left by the previous occupant and bed sheets that were stained and unclean. Not a fan.
