Hotel Haus Am Walde

Breakfast was tasty, though we had to walk through a lovely park for about ten minutes to reach the other hotel where it was served. Back at this old half-timbered house, there’s plenty of old-building charm, big rooms that can easily fit four beds, and a terrace looking out over the woods and meadow, with space to grill in summer. It’s right by the forest in a natural setting. Great value for a family or an overnight stop while passing through.

Breakfast is served at the Hotel Berlin. It’s basic but enough, and the service and atmosphere there are really appealing. The room itself was a different story. The beds are only 70 cm wide per person, so sharing one means you wake whenever the other person moves, and there’s barely room to turn over. The street facing room was noisy, and I couldn’t find smoke detectors, even though we saw some in other rooms that looked quite nicely renovated early in the morning. Our room had been renovated carelessly, with patchy white and yellowish walls and ceiling, a worn wardrobe, and a bathroom door damaged at the bottom. We won’t stay there again.

The yogurt at breakfast was expired, the bread rolls were rubbery, and breakfast itself was 900 meters away at another hotel. The cold cuts were okay. In my room, food bits were under the bed, which I checked after the remote fell down there, the outlets were dusty, the shower rim was black, and there was blood on the bed frame. I’m not usually bothered by minor things, but all these problems made the stay difficult, and the room was filthy. Reception wasn’t always staffed, so there was hardly any personal contact. One of the worst hotels I’ve stayed in. If I could, I’d give it zero stars.

Breakfast is nearly a kilometer away, and there isn’t much to choose from. The room feels a little dated, but it was very clean.
