Pension Zur Rheinschanz

Breakfast was a real highlight, with tea, coffee, juice, water, jams, honey, Nutella, cold cuts, cheese, bread and rolls, eggs, yogurt, muesli, chocolate rolls, fruit, and vegetables. We ate in a cozy little room, and Monika checked in now and then. We could choose when to have breakfast, so the atmosphere stayed relaxed. Before we left, she even offered us rolls and fruit to take along and gave us bags. For the price, it was hard to imagine a better breakfast. The three of us came after a day hike and found arrival easy. Monika called in the afternoon to ask when we'd get there, and she was very friendly. Our room was ready when we arrived in the early evening and suited us well. It was thoughtfully furnished, clean, quiet, and had comfortable beds. We could sit outside on the balcony or inside at the table, in the seating area, or on the sofa. Bottled water and glasses were free, and the minibar had soft drinks, local wine, and beer at reasonable prices. We felt welcome and comfortable throughout. The hostess was accommodating and hospitable, and there was nothing we could complain about. We'd definitely stay here again.

Quiet spot, just two minutes from the Rhine, with pleasant service. They called after I booked online, and the amenities were good even though some rooms are quite basic. Parking nearby is good in the evenings. Decent value, and suitable for business travelers too.

Breakfast was the standout: jam, chocolate spread, at least four kinds of sausage, three cheeses, bread, rolls, different cream cheeses, orange juice, muesli, coffee, and tea. They also offered boiled eggs and asked how runny we wanted them. When we left, the hostess suggested we take rolls, apples, and bananas for the walk. She was extremely friendly, everything was clean, and we were completely satisfied. The pension is in peaceful Bad Hönningen, 50 meters from the Rhine. It's a nice place to relax and a good stop for hikers like us on the Rheinsteig. Paying was easy, and the chilled beer and wine from (Bad Hönningen) were reasonably priced. We felt very comfortable, and I'd recommend the Pension zur Rheinschanz.

The parking lot is nearby, but it's unlit and the German signs are hard to understand. In the dark, the situation felt almost unbelievable. What bothers me most is that I didn't get to see the town, which looked like it could be beautiful at night. I booked by mistake after using a hotel website that doesn't identify this as a guesthouse and doesn't make clear that it's unsuitable for people with mobility impairments. We couldn't arrive before the 6 PM check-in deadline. When we rang the bell, a voice answered in German and English and opened the door, but we never saw the person inside. We only learned from a message from the guesthouse that we'd been assigned room 7. My wife climbed the difficult stairs, looked at the room layout, then came back down and told me we should leave. We left right away.
