Parkhotel Bad Homburg

I keep choosing this place when I’m in the Greater Frankfurt area, especially for a longer stay. It’s close to the main amenities in Bad Homburg, and the staff make it feel homely: they’re gracious, friendly and helpful, and many have worked there for years. They treat you like a person rather than a room number, which makes up for any shortcomings. The breakfasts are the best I’ve had anywhere.

The underground car park is a treat if you’re into unusual engineering. The rooms are large, the bathrooms are fabulous, and the hotel is super quiet even when there’s a sausage or beer festival going on. There are plenty of good restaurants within a short walk, including Alfonso for Italian food. There’s also a pricier place with more nouvelle cuisine, plus Vietnamese and Chinese options nearby. It’s a nice little spa town and an easy commute to Frankfurt for work. Don’t book through a hotel site: just turn up and ask for a room, or book direct, and you’ll save €50.

The rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, and some rooms have nice balconies. The bathrooms, including the showers and bathtubs, could do with renovation at some point. Still, the service is so good that we’re happy to return. The staff are very nice and the breakfast is very good.

Breakfast was the best part for me, with lots of German-style dishes to choose from. It’s a really good place to stay, and the people at the front desk are kind and willing to help. The beds could be more comfortable.
