The Yard Bad Honnef Hotel

We were there for an expo in Cologne, so the fact that there isn’t much to see or do in town didn’t bother us. The neighborhood is quiet, and the hotel is decent with a decent breakfast. It seemed to us like it had been converted from a hospital, which felt a bit strange. Parking was the main drawback. The hotel garage is very expensive, so we tried the street, where the instructions were really complicated. At night it wasn’t a problem, though, and that beat paying 20 euros per night for the hotel parking. The price-performance deal is good enough that I’d stay again. I think the receptionist was Vanessa. She could use some smiles, as dealing with her made us anxious each time.

The area is great, and it’s a very nice hotel. One thing to know at check-in: I had to tell the person at the counter that my company was taking over the cost directly. Otherwise, after 3pm, I would have had to pay myself.

The breakfast and location were the only good parts for us. We won’t go back or recommend it. There was no real service: check-in and the bar were self-service. When we asked an employee in our room for toilet paper, she told us we could pick it up later downstairs at reception. We thought that was ridiculous; someone should have brought it up. The employee wasn’t friendly either. The place was dusty everywhere, not just a little. We could write our names in the dust on the table, and there was dust on the paintings, lamps, headboard, and other things. Parking was very expensive. We were charged € 30 for our dog for two days. We’d brought our own pillow and food, so what we paid for was a towel and two bowls. Other hotels charge us just once.

The room was clean, and there was plenty of choice at breakfast. The breakfast team were friendly and professional. We had a wonderful stay, and Samantha and Leaticia at reception gave us such a warm welcome. Thanks again.
