Mietz

What keeps bringing me back to Hotel Mietz is how welcome the owners make you feel. One of them is always available, and you’ll often find one relaxing in the lovely garden, where I’m writing this now. Between them they speak German, French, Dutch, and English. It’s a quiet, clean place with a generous, tasty breakfast, and the rates are as good as or lower than other hotels in its class. Though it’s rated two stars, I’d put it alongside any three-star hotel. The location is hard to beat too: two short streets from the town center, close to shops, restaurants, the beautiful Ahr River, bike and walking trails, and trains through the valley to Bonn and Koblenz. I’ve stayed here for a month each year for the last three years, and I’m already planning to return next year. Plenty of guests come back, and I’m one of them.

The garden is a lovely spot to sit and unwind. I’ve been working hard in town, and this has been a great place to relax. The staff are friendly and really helpful.

For our father’s 60th birthday, the whole family stayed at Hotel Mietz. They prepared a wonderful three-course dinner just for us, with meat and vegetarian choices. We felt looked after and at ease. The rooms have a traditional style, while the bathrooms have been renovated in a more modern way. Everything was very clean and comfortable. We’d happily come back.

It’s not the Steigenberger Hotel, of course, but the setting is fantastic, just a few meters from the Ahr River and around 150 meters from the park. It worked well for a relaxing weekend or a longer break. We also had some really good conversations with the owner. Thanks for your time.
