Hotel Dollenberg

The staff at Bareiss are attentive, the rooms are comfortable, the pool area is fantastic, and the breakfast buffet is wonderful. The whole place feels welcoming, so our family stays there now when visiting the Schwarzwald. We made that choice after my grandparents' last visit to Dollenberg Hotel, where they'd been loyal guests for many years. My grandmother's mobility had become limited, so my aunt specifically requested an accessible room with no stairs and close to the elevator. The room they received didn't meet those needs at all. When the family asked for another solution, staff showed little interest and were dismissive. At one point, they were essentially told to leave if the room didn't suit them, so they did. There was no apology or refund for a stay they couldn't use as booked. If Dollenberg Hotel couldn't meet the request, they shouldn't have confirmed the booking.

Never again. Renovation work was going on in different rooms, and our room was right by it. The hallway carpets were covered with construction material, and there was noise, a smell, and smoke in the corridor. The partner website hadn't mentioned the ongoing work when I booked. On top of that, the toilet was extremely dirty, with stains everywhere, and we were told they couldn't be cleaned. That's what I got from a premium luxury resort.

That five-star superior rating actually means something. We stopped for just a cold beer, looking tired and dirty from riding our motorcycles, and were welcomed, seated, and served the best Black Angus steak ever. Incredible reception, professional and amazing staff, and a grand chef. The view over the Black Forest was great too.

A very high standard, from the great food and service to the breakfast fruit, which was clearly hand-picked for how tasty it was. Prices are fair. It's a perfect spot if you like peace and good food. The guests seem more into nature, and the hotel isn't especially geared toward children. For us, it's just right.
