Gelpkes Muehle

We had the family room for three nights last weekend, and our oldest loved the bunk bed and playroom. They’d thought of our youngest one too. Everyone was incredibly sweet and hospitable. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely come back!

We had a lovely big family room for five, with a double bed, bunk bed, and cot, and breakfast had a nice range of options. The children had a great time in the play area, and the grounds were lovely for walking our dog. There are two playgrounds, a mini-golf course, and the town center within walking distance too. The hotel was recently taken over by a Dutch couple who are doing a great job freshening it up. You can see how hard the new owners are working on it. I stayed here for two weeks with my three children and dog, and we’ll be back for two weeks next summer holiday.

We’re four older motorcyclists gradually exploring Germany’s low mountain ranges, and this time we used “Gelpkes Mühle” as our base in the Harz. It turned out to be a very good choice. The hosts gave us a warm welcome and went out of their way to make our stay pleasant. Our bikes were safely parked in the enclosed courtyard. The rooms were functional and very clean, and breakfast was plentiful with everything we could want. In the evening we enjoyed a good beer under the covered patio. If no host was around, a quick ring of the bell brought someone to serve us more. Everything was perfect, really. What more could you want?

Breakfast was plentiful and tasty, with as much coffee as we wanted. Our small, clean rooms had private bathrooms, TVs, and more. Christel and Harm were always around to help during our stay, following a very warm welcome at the start. We were there as bikers and can highly recommend the hotel. It’d surely work well for families too.
