For a budget stay, this small hotel is better than average. It’s about six blocks from the therme, the main attraction here, so the location is okay, though it isn’t right nearby. The hotel has an indoor pool, a whirlpool, and a sauna, all free to use. The facilities were clean, breakfast was nice, and the staff were so kind and helpful. I’m leaving very satisfied.

Mrs. Lehnhardt is the owner and really the heart of the hotel. The rooms are small but perfectly fine for sleeping, and the whole place is spotless and furnished with lots of attention to detail. The breakfast she made for us deserves a special mention: so many delicious things, and everything tasted fantastic. There’s parking in front, and the pretty little town of Bad Steben is within walking distance. We booked an overnight stay at Hotel Haus Birken. The double room was €146, including tourist tax and a €10 charge for staying just one night. The single room was €76. Highly recommended!

From June 9th to 11th, 2023, I stayed at Hotel "Haus Birken." The owner has unfortunately had to cut back substantially on the services that used to be offered, including full board, the café, and the complete wellness area with swimming pool, partly because of the pandemic. Still, that hasn’t affected the charming decor of the house and rooms, the cleanliness, or the exceptionally good breakfast. Ms. Lenhardt was pleasant and friendly, and always happy to accommodate guests’ wishes. I’ll certainly visit "Haus Birken" again next time I’m in Bad Steben. Highly recommended.

We booked a birthday brunch there. The food was mediocre, and the price was even worse. If paying €80 per person for a few sandwiches sounds fine to you, go for it. Otherwise, you’d be better off finding a decent meal somewhere else.

Breakfast was the one thing we enjoyed, and it earned the place its single star. The rest was dreadful. The room had a powerful musty odor that stayed even with the balcony door open, and the bed smelled so bad that getting a decent night's sleep was impossible. The standard felt stuck in the 1970s. There wasn't even soap in the bathroom, never mind a hairdryer, which you'd expect at a three-star place. We paid €98 a night for this. We won't be back.
