The hotel makes a strong first impression. Its architecture and exterior are beautiful, the views are great, and it’s surrounded by nature. The location feels peaceful, parking was easy, and the lounge and bar are lovely. I also liked the self-service fridge for drinks after hours. The receptionist was exceptionally welcoming and friendly. Her style may feel a little casual to some, but we liked it. Breakfast was included and amazing. The spa didn’t live up to how much the hotel promotes it. There weren’t enough loungers for the number of guests, perhaps room for 20 when the hotel can host around 50. The “relaxation room” was packed with garden loungers, with barely an arm’s length between people, so it wasn’t somewhere I could unwind. The saunas were nice and varied, and the small sauna for two was a welcome option. I’m more of a pool person, so the pools were a major letdown. The plunge pool was very slippery and covered in algae, which I found concerning, even understanding that natural pools can be like that. The “heated” natural pool was 26 °C, more like a training pool temperature than a spa. It was too cold to enjoy, and nobody dared get in. That’s not acceptable for a spa that presents its outdoor pool as a highlight. Our room was very dusty. Whenever we moved a pillow or blanket, clouds of dust came up, which was surprising given the attractive wood and tile flooring. We could constantly hear the heavy fire door in the hallway slam shut, and our own door vibrated from it. Otherwise, the room was quiet. The bathroom arrangement was odd: there was no proper wall or door, just a curtain for privacy. That trendy setup won’t suit everyone. The toilet had a separate little room, but its light switch was outside, around the corner and behind the hinge side of the door, which was very impractical. There was only a tiny bin outside the toilet area, inconvenient especially for women. From the bed, you could see straight into the shower through a completely transparent curtain. Some couples may be fine with that, but I’d have liked the option of more privacy. There was no shelf or ledge in the shower for toiletries, so everything had to go on the floor. The shampoo was a 3-in-1 for body, face, and hair, the sort of thing I’d expect from a budget men’s brand rather than a 4-star spa hotel. At least the spa shower had an extra bottle of conditioner. The toilet paper was also very thin and poor quality. At noon we tried to get coffee in the lobby. There was a self-service machine, but a staff member hurried over to ask for our room number so they could charge us. Even the self-service coffee wasn’t complimentary. The place looks great and has friendly staff, but at this price I expected more comfort, upkeep, and a better spa experience. It has potential, but the value and attention to detail fell short.

The spa, with its saunas and mineral pool, is top notch. There’s also a rooftop bar with mountain views. Paths for walking and biking start at the hotel entrance, work as Nordic trails in winter, and connect to nearby towns and resorts. The hotel was new in 2023.

The room was really nice and clean, and the hotel itself looks great, with interesting design inside and out. Food and drinks are reasonably priced even though it’s self service. The woman working at the bar was polite, friendly, and had good drink suggestions. She was the one staff member who really stood out, and maybe the others could learn from her. It didn’t feel like a family place or somewhere relaxing. There was no air conditioning, and in the high outdoor temperatures we were melting in the room. Even the next day, when it was cooler outside, it stayed hot indoors. We left the door open all night, which gave us at least some air but didn’t solve it. There’s a busy road in front, with cars and tractors going past all the time. Closing the door helped with the noise, but then there was no air and it was hot. The room had no fridge. The soap seemed watered down to make it last longer, I guess, and the shower had only 2in1 soap and shampoo. There were no slippers, bathrobes, shoehorn, or even basic things like cotton pads or buds. I’d rather have any of those than the ashtray in the wardrobe. I don’t understand why smoking is allowed in a wellness hotel, especially one built with so much wood. The staff were polite and nobody was rude, but they weren’t very attentive or especially friendly. They need basic training in customer service and hospitality. Communication before arrival was also nonexistent. I messaged through booking.com a few days beforehand and got no reply. I wanted to book a massage for my husband, but the website wouldn’t let me do it online and sent an automatic reply telling me to call reception. If they only want to be contacted by phone, why offer other ways to get in touch? We paid over €600 for one night because we decided to go home a night early after finding it uncomfortable to sleep. We also spent extra money at another hotel just to get some relaxing time. When we left early, nobody asked why or whether everything was okay, or even thanked us for staying. They just took our credit card and said the receipt would be emailed. It felt cold and unwelcoming. It seemed more like a hotel for influencers to take photos and post on Instagram. I think many guests may be there for that; there was a huge group when we visited, so maybe some of the good reviews are from those people. Or perhaps we were just unlucky with indifferent staff and hot weather, which made everything uncomfortable.

Andrea and her family made us feel so welcome at this stylish, modern, spotless wellness hotel at the foot of the Bavarian Alps. It’s a fantastic family-run place, with great hospitality and a lovely breakfast. I especially liked the milk frother for oat or soya milk. We’ll definitely come back!
