We had a hard time getting a decent shower because the water pressure was so low. The lift was also unnerving, jerking and making strange noises, and it was often out of order, so we had to take the stairs. Our kids' bunk bed squeaked constantly and disturbed our sleep. The room layout was cramped, the bed was hard, the TV was old, and the internet was painfully slow. The pillows were comfortable enough, though. We'd booked and paid for four nights, but left after the third. This was the first time we'd ever left a hotel early. The restaurant seemed popular, and the atmosphere gave the impression that quality mattered. The owners, a couple, seemed friendly, though their help felt more like an obligation than genuine care. That first impression didn't last. There were some good points: the location and a decent breakfast. The restaurant might be good too, from what we saw, but apparently we didn't reply to their email about dinner reservations, so we didn't get any dinner. Breakfast is hands-on if you want something like a sunny-side-up egg: there's a stove and pan, and you make it yourself. Be ready for a lot of DIY. You have to make your own bed, and cleaning happens after three nights, so the bed isn't made every day. The place seems to aim for high standards, but the owners don't seem willing to put in the resources to reach them. It felt like paying a premium for a subpar stay. I wouldn't recommend staying here, even if the restaurant might be worth a visit. There are likely better places for the money. If you have no choice but to stay, get a parking ticket from reception to use the nearby public garage, and book dinner ahead of time. The internet is very slow, so you may need mobile data. Of the couple running the hotel, the woman may seem friendly, but her help can feel passive-aggressive. If you need assistance, it's better to ask the man. He can be a bit brusque, but at least he's somewhat professional and tries to help. This is my personal view based on my experience. Edit, a year after the owner's 'such' a professional response: I didn't leave a bad rating because you charged me for the rooms I'd booked. I never said that. It was the bad experience that made us leave a night early, even though we'd paid for it and could have stayed. It's a pity you don't understand what I've written here. I even included the positives because I wanted to be fair.

Bad Urach is amazing, but I'd avoid this hotel. It was a shocking stay, and the place is badly run down for what they charge. We were a larger family occupying five rooms for a long weekend. They wanted a 30 Euro early check-in fee for two rooms, and for another room they asked us to pay for an extra night just to get in at 11am. We were good customers, so that was pretty shocking. We worked around it and didn't use the early check-in, even though it was inconvenient. I didn't want to give this money-grabbing hotel any more money.

The food at the restaurant was high quality, and the hosts were great. The room was fine, with a very comfortable bed, in a beautiful old building. It's well located for the town centre.

The fries were good, but the food was a bit salty and not that good. Order a vegetarian burger and you get it without the meat patty! The salad had to be ordered separately. Breakfast was fair. As for the hotel, it could work if you're hiking and just need a place to stay, but the unrenovated 'superior room' costs too much.

The location is good, public parking is a minute away, and the inside was clean. Breakfast was okay. If you like antiques, you might enjoy the old furniture in the rooms. The staff could be a little friendlier, though. I don't know why booking.com showed me a 'twin bed' in your 'Single room' and said it was suitable for one adult and one kid. After a day of travelling with a small child, the last thing I wanted was to discover there was only a single bed. All the staff said was, 'It's a single room, what do you want?'
