Hotel Restaurant Auerhahn

We stayed in a family room with our two teens and found it roomy, with a comfortable dining space and a kitchenette that had everything we needed. We also ate at the hotel, where both the food and service were excellent. We loved our stay.

We tried spaetzle and schnitzel, and both were tasty and reasonably priced compared with the very average restaurants we'd eaten at elsewhere in the Black Forest. The waiter was friendly and helpful when he realized we didn't speak German. Great food and service.

The staff serving us were great, and the soup, salad, and main course were all nice, especially the meat. But the dessert was a letdown, bland and like a one-euro ice cream. Drinks were quite expensive for a restaurant out in the Schwarzwald, on top of the 125 euros per person for the four-course menu. We went to the Auerhahn for Sylvester, with dinner scheduled at 6:30 PM, much too early for us. The meal ended around 10:30, and after four hours there still hadn't been any entertainment, so we went home. Underwhelming and overpriced. We probably should have gone to the Wildbader Hof.

The pepper steak was really good, and the serving was enormous: fries, potato salad tucked underneath the vegetable salad, so two potato sides, plus a huge knob of herb butter. The prices are very reasonable for portions that big, and the quality was good too. Service was quick and friendly. I'll definitely come back if I'm in the area.
