The wellness area is warm and pleasant, with a pool, five saunas, and plenty of loungers. The different sauna styles, especially the aromatic ones, are fun to explore. The hotel is exceptionally clean. It’s kept its original look, though: the annex with the rooms and wellness area seems to have been preserved as it was, perhaps from the 1980s, without renovation. It’s a quiet spot in the Black Forest, close to mountains with great hikes for all levels. One waitress, both at dinner and the breakfast buffet, always looked sullen, which didn’t feel welcoming for someone working in service. Also, only the manager at reception speaks a little English; the others speak only German. I found that odd for a place so close to France that welcomes foreign guests.

The rooms were very clean, and we had a peaceful stay with a great view from the balcony. Dinner came with a very fresh, delicious salad buffet. It’s a cosy, old-style hotel with typically German service, restrained but good. There are a couple of drawbacks. The hotel isn’t very suitable for travelers with disabilities, and breakfast had little choice in both food and things to eat. The coffee wasn’t great either. Still, we had a very nice experience.

My son stayed here for three nights, and accommodation cost $748.65 AUD. We had paid in full through the booking.com app seven days before he checked in. I have both the app receipt and bank statement to prove it. Even so, the hotel charged him the full accommodation cost again. He was travelling alone for the first time in a non-English-speaking country. I spent a whole day trying to get my money back, asking the hotel to send booking.com his payment receipt, or even just to give me a direct email address so I could send proof of payment. They weren’t helpful and essentially told me to sort it out with booking.com myself. They have their money, while my son was left 500 euro short for his trip in Germany. My advice is to steer clear. There are plenty of other hotels in this area.
