KS Hostel Berchtesgaden

We were told we'd get one room and ended up with another; the rooms were noisy, and the whole place felt rickety and poorly put together. Check-in happens at the Burger King beside a loud highway. The kitchen wasn't labelled and had almost no utensils or cutlery, just a microwave and hot plate. We cooked ravioli in the microwave using the two plates provided. There were no cups, one mug, and one spoon. This hostel is an insult, and not even cheap. The owners seem to rely on the area's lack of viable alternatives for travelers.

The building, rooms, and bathrooms all seemed old, but this was still the best hostel I've ever stayed in because of the location. It's right by the train and bus stations, with beautiful mountains nearby. I also felt comfortable around the other travelers. In big city hostels I've sometimes had trouble with loud, disrespectful people, but that wasn't an issue here, and I never felt I had to lock up my things.

It's a clean, pleasant place with comfortable beds, but the promised mountain view turned out to face the highway, which was noisy at night. Getting help or checking in can be a hassle because the staff also work downstairs at Burger King, so you wait until they've served the customers. It was a good place to stay, though pricey for what you get, especially since it's the only hostel in Berchtesgaden.

A clean, comfortable room, and an unusual setup: the hostel is directly above Burger King, with reception inside it too. They give guests a card for free public transport. I'd recommend it to budget travelers planning to visit Königssee.
