The food was so good that I enjoyed staying here just for the meals. They really pay attention to what they serve, and even the scrambled eggs at breakfast were tasty. It’s a friendly family run place, with clean rooms that are a good size. My upgraded room, I think room 31, was gigantic, but it felt dark, had no view, and its windows were too high to see out of. Perhaps they have other rooms, because I’d have preferred one half that size with a view. The welcome and cleanliness were fantastic. For a three star pension, it’s easy to judge it by four star hotel standards. I’d go back and recommend it.

A nice place to take a break or explore the area. The hotel is family run, and you can really see that in the service. The owners are around and available, the rooms are clean, and the restaurant is pleasant.

Dinner and breakfast were both delicious. We split the pork with spatzel entree and a salad, and there was plenty for the two of us. The breakfast buffet was beautiful too. The dining area and rooms are elegant, comfortable, tidy, and very clean, and the hosts made us feel welcome. It’s in a quiet, charming town, with a small market just a few steps away. We’re looking forward to coming back.

The food was delicious and the service was really good. Our room was very quiet and clean, and we were surprised to find a radio beside the bed. It was a perfect hotel and restaurant experience, and the restaurant deserves its Michelin recommended title.

I was working in the area, so I saw the hotel differently than someone on holiday might. My room was large and comfortable, with plenty of amenities, including a desk, a minibar that doubled as a small fridge, and a fantastic hot shower. It reminded me of how good mid range hotels used to be, and the staff were lovely. The restaurant food was great, though I waited an hour from arriving to getting something to eat, which was too long when I had other plans for the evening. I imagine that’s fine for many holidaymakers. The restaurant gets very busy, so first floor rooms can be noisy until around 11 pm. Gengenbach is a very cute town and worth a visit for that picture postcard Germany feel, but it’s some distance from the hotel, so having a car is best.
