AMANO HOME Apartments

The room itself was fine and the location was good, but the service was awful. We chose this apartment partly for its amenities, especially the elevator, since some of us have health issues and can’t manage stairs, particularly with luggage. When we arrived, we were told the lift was out of order, and we had to carry our bags up three floors without any help. They made no effort to make up for it, and the staff were very rude and unprofessional. They also never sent the check-in code they had promised. Another customer helped us get into the property, otherwise we would have been left waiting with our luggage. We checked out today, and I definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

The general experience was very good, and we enjoyed our stay near Alexanderplatz. There are some great independent shops just a few minutes away, rather than the usual high street chains. A few little things were frustrating: the TV remote had no batteries, there was no sugar or kettle for tea and coffee, and the sofa bed was too small for two adults. Trams going past below are a bit noisy.

I really like this place. Our room, 704, was very spacious, and there were pots for cooking too. We couldn’t work out how to access the induction cooker, but it turned out there was a cabinet on the dishwasher that needed opening. We’d missed it and called the restaurant, and they came to help pretty quickly. Check-in is self-service: the hotel emails you to download an app and enter your details beforehand, then you scan the barcode on your phone at the machine when you arrive. The area is busy and lively, so some noise is to be expected. I don’t think the place deserves a one-star rating.

Torstraße gets especially loud where the trams turn, and you won’t want to leave the window open. Even so, I’ve stayed here several more times since my first visit and really enjoy it. The rooms are big, the location is good, and the price is reasonable. Even the smallest rooms are spacious, the beds are comfortable, the shower has strong water pressure, and tablet check-in is easy. Bringing a dog was no problem, though the pet fee didn’t come with any extra amenities.
