Grand Hostel Berlin Urban

The staff member Lucas handled my housekeeping request really well after a dorm mate made a mess in the room. That excellent service is why I wanted to review this hostel. I stayed five nights, in a fifth-floor dorm room with great views, though sirens from emergency vehicles made it noisy at night and in the early morning. There’s no shared kitchen, but a restaurant on the sixth floor serves a full buffet breakfast at a reasonable price. The building has elevators.

Cozy, quiet rooms, very friendly staff and everything was really clean. A great hostel for the price. Recommended.

I’d happily stay here again. It’s affordable, with a great breakfast buffet, and sits right on Hermannplatz beside the U7 and U8, so getting around town is easy. The neighborhood has plenty of good restaurants, cafes and bars. The street can be loud because it’s such a busy area. I bring a white noise machine when I travel, and it worked great to block it out.

I had a great stay with friends in a four-person room. The air con worked really well, the beds were comfy, and there was plenty of storage for four people on a short trip. Staff were friendly and helpful. It’s handy for templehof park, with nice restaurants nearby and easy travel to other areas. The main downside was the bathroom setup. The toilet and sink share a room with the shower, so getting ready involved a lot of waiting. I’ve found other hostels more convenient when those are separate. The shower curtain wasn’t good enough to stop the high-pressure water flooding the bathroom. There were communal bathrooms on the first and sixth floors, but they were almost always locked and unavailable. It was a shame not to have another option when our room’s bathroom was occupied.
