Holiday Inn - The Niu, Pax Berlin Airport, by IHG

Friendly staff, and breakfast was good. The hotel works fine if you have a car, but there's no airport shuttle and public transport is far away. Our family room was oddly huge, yet the desks were tiny and difficult to use. There was loads of storage, though most of it seemed like empty space. They could have used some of that room for a mini fridge, a proper work desk, and an ironing board and iron. The room also wasn't ready on time.

I came after an event at night so I wouldn't have to leave too early for my red-eye flight. I wanted a modest, comfortable hotel close to the airport. Instead it felt like a bunker in the middle of nowhere. The train station is a long way off, followed by a fairly long ride, so travel time is much like hotels nearer the city. Calling it an airport hotel doesn't really make sense. The carpet smelled, and my room was on the ground floor with the parking entrance floodlight right outside the window. The staff seemed nice, and the lounge bar looked like it could cover what you need. But I didn't find the practical convenience or restful night's sleep I was looking for. How this place currently has 4.6 stars is beyond me. Is there anything about BER that isn't a complete misconstruction?

The reception, bar, and seating spaces are lovely, and the staff were friendly and very helpful. It's a modern, lively hotel close to Berlin Airport, and it worked great for the night before our flight. I'd definitely recommend it.

I really liked the hotel's concept, and the staff were super friendly and helpful. I'd stay at the niu again.
