Hotel Castell

The room was old, dirty and smelled awful, with a damp carpet and a moldy odor. I smoked in there because of the smell. I understand the €100 fine and that wasn't my issue. What was frightening and unacceptable was the yelling and trying to get into my room. I found the staff rude and racist, and had problems around the deposit and disruptive late-night visits. The place lacks modern amenities and the room condition was deplorable. Do not sign anything there. These people are scammers. I'm going to pursue this through international channels, especially over the racist behavior. It was a nightmarish stay, and I'd tell people to choose somewhere else.

Our room opened onto a courtyard and was very clean. We stayed two nights, and would stay again if we're back in Berlin.

I was there with my family. The receptionist was beautiful, and even though I'm 16, I thought she was the best. Such a nice smile and everything.

They charged a lot during the Messe period, like other hotels in Germany. Staff weren't fluent in English, and check-in took 15 minutes because the payment machine had a problem. The room was barely basic: the towel was very thin, it wasn't warm enough, and the extra blanket was really old. I didn't bother trying breakfast because I could guess what it would be like. There are some nice cafes five minutes away that open at 8 a.m.
