Mercure Hotel Berlin Tempelhof

Thankfully, the location was very nice, with plenty of shops and bars nearby offering good food and drinks. On our way back, though, we saw a rat right in front of the hotel. That sums up the experience. I earned gold status with Accor last year after staying in their hotels across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, so I can compare the same brand in different places. I've never been treated this way. We booked two rooms for our family two months in advance, expecting connecting rooms, but got rooms nearby, separated by a staircase. When I asked a very unfriendly and unprofessional receptionist, I was told that was all they could offer and there were no rooms closer together in the whole building. As a gold member, I should have been eligible for a free room upgrade. The employee said without even checking that the hotel was full and no upgrade was available. At that same time, I checked the All Accor reservation app and saw superior and privilege rooms available. I have a screenshot. Then we entered the rooms and found no complimentary mineral water. For a 4-star hotel, that was absolutely unbelievable. Accor, is this how you treat loyal customers?

Breakfast was very good, the best I've had, in my opinion. The hotel is near a metro station and a bus stop, and service was good and helpful. The room was spacious, clean, and had a great view. Everything you need was there, the beds were excellent, we slept really well, and there was no noise. There were a couple of problems. The door had to be slammed to shut properly, and we temporarily lost electricity in the room. On our last day, the cleaning crew opened the door while we were asleep, before checkout. They closed it straight away, but made a lot of noise because of that door. All in all, it's a recommended hotel. Maybe others will be luckier than us.

The staff were pleasant and helpful whenever we spoke with them. The room itself was less convincing: there was a bit of mould and dirt in the bathroom, and bottled water cost 4.50 euros even though a Lidl is only 40 meters away. For what the hotel offered, it felt overpriced for the area. The reception and the whole ground floor smelled of sulphur and eggs. It may have been the drains after the heavy rain, since the smell disappeared once the rain stopped.

For a business trip, this was a convenient option for the price, quality, and service. The ECC exhibition center is about 10 minutes away by taxi, and the hotel has an acceptable Rix restaurant. It’s in a lively neighborhood with plenty nearby, including pharmacies, shops, and Vietnamese, Middle Eastern, Italian, and other restaurants.
