Mercure Hotel Berlin Wittenbergplatz

We wished the room had a coffee machine, a desk, and a second chair. With only one chair, it was hard for two people to get work done, though there is a business-style area downstairs. Breakfast was perfect for us. We visited in January, and there were eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurts, olives, cheeses, breads and pastries (not gluten free), butter, jams, coffee, tea, cereals, a pancake maker, and more. We don’t eat pork, and the staff made us a veggie omelette. Eating at the hotel was easier and about the same price. The room was clean and well maintained, very quiet, and had an exceptionally comfortable bed. The shower got hot right away, and the staff were very helpful.

The hotel is beautiful and in an excellent location, but it didn’t meet my expectations. The man at breakfast should treat customers with more respect and be more polite. When someone asks where to get coffee, he shouldn’t be reluctant to point them in the right direction or act so absolute. He should learn to smile sincerely. Every year, it seems worse.

There are several restaurants right outside, and the location worked well for me. Mecure Wittenbergplatz was just what I expected and wanted, with nice rooms, good breakfast, and service on par.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and I liked the hotel. The room would have earned five stars without the odd decor and the temperature setting, which only ranges from 19° to 21°. Even 19° felt too warm at night, so we had to leave the window tilted open.
