The well is 92 meters deep, the deepest in the area, and it’s an impressive bit of engineering in Betzenstein. During the guided tour, the guide explained everything clearly and engagingly. It’s hard to believe how long the water takes to fall, and just looking down can leave your stomach feeling a little queasy.
You can only see this well on a guided tour because, like the one at Nuremberg Castle, it’s inside a building. A detailed information panel also tells you a lot about this fascinating structure. It was dug to around 100 meters deep around 1550.
