PAPA RHEIN Hotel & Spa

I’ve stayed at Papa Rhein twice with my best friend, and I can’t wait to go back. It’s a great spot for a romantic getaway, a relaxing break, or an active trip in the beautiful nature around the Rhine. The rooms are stylish and well equipped, the food is delicious, and the spa is spotless and relaxing. Such a treat!

We chose this as a stop on the way to Italy after reading the reviews and thinking we’d finally found a nice hotel in Germany. It looks great as a concept, but the experience was disappointing. The room seemed lovely at first, then we noticed dog hair in the corners and on the carpet. The bed was terrible and we both woke with sore backs, and the view was of a construction site. The deck pool isn’t really a swimming pool, more of a bathing deck. The indoor pool was okay, but also faced the construction. Food was expensive and far below what we expected. Staff at the Italian restaurant were unfriendly, and there were wasps. Breakfast needed a table reservation. When we arrived, there was no table for four because they were all reserved, even though it wasn’t busy. The staff were unfriendly there too, and wasps inside made it impossible to relax. The place has potential and looks like a gem as a concept, but the execution needs to improve and the construction work needs to be finished.

We love coming here for weekends from Frankfurt, with or without the kids. The location is fantastic, the rooms are great, the rooftop is outstanding, breakfast is very good, service is friendly, and parking is free. Two disappointments: dinner at the Italian bistro was poor, and they really need a proper espresso machine for better coffee.

The Rhine views are beautiful, and the hotel is well placed near the Promenade for a relaxing stay. We liked the restaurant, where the service was top-notch, and the sauna was a nice extra. Free parking right by the entrance was convenient too. A few things brought the experience down. There’s no room service. When I called for a bottle of water, they told me to get it myself. Nobody offered to help with our luggage, and the staff member who checked us in was quite unpleasant. Still, the location, amenities, restaurant, and spa made the stay mostly positive.
