Best Western Hotel Bochum

Breakfast was the bright spot, along with the restaurant staff, who were friendly, attentive, and quick to refill everything fresh. The hotel feels very dated, and apparently it had only joined Best Western about four weeks earlier. We were there for Starlight, which is right across the street. We’d booked a double room with an extra bed, but what they provided was a rock-hard cot with a very thin mattress. I reckon the floor would have been more comfortable. Reception said it was meant to be a couch, then claimed we’d already used it, though we’d been in the room less than 20 minutes and hadn’t touched anything. They wouldn’t change it, so the three of us had to sleep in two single beds. The pillows were awful too. Next time I’d gladly walk farther for better accommodation.

The breakfast was the standout for me. There were plenty of staff, and they kept bringing out small portions of juice, coffee, eggs, bacon, rolls, and more. It felt fresh, without giant trays left to dry out. That’s rare, and it made me forget about the old carpet in the hallway. The beds were comfortable and they do their best to keep the place clean, though the hotel is showing its age and could use a full renovation. The location is fantastic if you’re going to Starlight Express, just steps away. For one night or a few, it has what you need. I’d recommend it for a visit to the musical.
