Hotel – Restaurant „Hohensteiner Hof“

Everything was fine.

I felt right at home here. The owner, who's also the chef, made a real effort to make everyone comfortable. My single room was spotless, with a roomy bathroom, double bed, big sitting area, large flat-screen TV, desk, and a shared balcony with a great view. It was unusually spacious for a single room. I was staying at Hotel & Restaurant Braski, also known as Hohensteiner Hof, and there was plenty of parking right at the hotel. I was on my own as a hotel guest, and also one of eight people at a birthday party for guests aged 35 to 75. Everyone enjoyed the freshly made à la carte Balkan-style dishes. The portions were very generous, and there were no pre-made ingredients. I don't eat breakfast, so I can't comment on that. In August 2025, during the Baden-Württemberg summer holidays, a single room cost €50 and a double room €80. Anyone still complaining deserves to be punished... I'll happily come back as both a hotel and restaurant guest!

The owner packed up the leftover schnitzel for us and even offered more Spätzle, which we couldn't turn down. He said it was for dinner tomorrow. Where do you get that kind of service? TOP. We also had a pleasant chat with him before leaving, and found out he's been at Hohenstein since 2014. The others before him didn't last that long, so respect! There were three of us and our dog, and we decided at the last minute to go out midweek. The two ladies each had three schnitzels with croquettes or fries and a mixed salad, along with currant spritzers or Coke Zero. I had roast beef with a ton of onions, Spätzle, a mixed salad, and a half-liter of beer. The starter salad was excellent, and the rest of the food was really great too. The kitchen and owner deserve credit, especially since three staff members were sick, though it wasn't very busy that weekday. For dessert we had a potato pancake with raspberries and cream, then a schnapps. What more could you want? There are hotel rooms too, and the menu has something for everyone: pizza, tarte flambée, German food, and Balkan specialties, with a similar range of drinks. We'll try the Balkan dishes next time. We were very pleasantly surprised. Keep it up! We'll be back. That's a promise, not a threat!!!

A complete disaster in every way. Too bad there's no zero-star option. We were left sitting for more than an hour with no food, no service, and no drinks, with our small child and the whole family. Then, instead of the mixed “buffet” we'd had the year before, we were simply told there would be just one dish for everyone. We were already annoyed after waiting well over an hour without a drink or any service, but we accepted it even though we'd agreed on something else. The staff apparently only then set off to buy the food at a supermarket. Imagine that. We asked for an alternative and were sent to a nearby pizzeria. More than 2.5 hours waiting with a small child, without food or drinks, only to be sent to another restaurant! The next morning was the final straw. We'd agreed on the room prices beforehand, but at least one room had to pay extra. After that evening, an apology was the least they could have offered. Any halfway decent host would've apologized and even given a discount for the trouble. Instead, we had to pay more than agreed, without being told about it. Nearly a year later, we're all still so upset that I decided to write this review. I'll keep encouraging everyone else affected to do the same. Stay away from this incompetent, dishonest place if you want a pleasant evening. I hope the other people involved post their reviews soon too!
