Hotel Collegium Leoninum

We spent two nights there with my family in August. The pool and spa were very good, and breakfast was top notch. The staff were friendly and helpful, and manager Peter was especially accommodating. Thanks, Peter.

The staff were friendly and helpful, and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The furniture and curtains could use replacing, though. At the bar, the only options are beer and wine.

The easiest thing about the hotel was its location: it's convenient and an easy enough walk to the city centre. My room was fairly quiet and relatively clean, but it felt worn. The TV was old, and the washroom needed some attention. I wouldn't recommend staying here at the advertised prices, especially in the warm months. There are better nearby choices, and this place doesn't feel close to the four stars it claims. It can feel more like a retirement home with spare rooms rented to hotel guests. The heat was the worst part. Rooms get extremely warm, and there is no air conditioning or fan in each room. On hot nights, guests have to call reception to ask for a fan, with no guarantee one is available. I called several times before I finally got one, and meanwhile had one of the most uncomfortable hotel-room stays I've ever had. I raised the problem with the front desk and was told they knew about it. There was no management on site. They need enough fans for every room, especially on warm days. Service was slow too. It took about 30-35 minutes to get an iron and ironing board early in the morning before I left for work. I also saw a night-shift employee speak quite rudely to another customer, and was a bit shocked by the exchange. I had booked in May, when the pool was advertised as reopening on June 1st. When I checked in in mid-June, I was told it was still closed. Nobody had informed me that the reopening was delayed. If I'd known, I would have booked elsewhere.

It's a bit strange that this is both a hotel and a care home. I gave service only three stars because, after I'd checked in, a staff member opened my door while I was changing and tried to let someone else into the room. There wasn't a real apology.
