The people were really nice, and we slept in a beautiful renovated room. We had dinner there a few times because the kitchen kept surprising us. We enjoyed the surprise dinners, with a choice of fish, meat, or vegetarian food, always served with plenty of vegetables :) There are wonderful hikes around the guesthouse.

The food at the Nicklaus is really good, and it gives people who enjoy eating well another welcome option in town. My longtime favorite restaurant in Holzschlag has been the Kröne, but with the Nicklaus reopening there's now a worthy contender. It's more formal than the Kröne and a bit more expensive, with perhaps a more sophisticated feel overall.

There are lots of trails nearby for walks and enjoying nature. Family Fichtel are fantastic hosts, and the hotel is clean and well kept, with a lovely family atmosphere. The food is terrific, all handmade with local products by chef Alfred Fichtel. I love it here.

The hiking path starts right in front of the hotel, and breakfast is delicious, served every day with a smile. A top family-run place in the middle of the Black Forest. I'll visit again!

A family-friendly hotel with excellent quality and amazing food. The breakfast is very generous too. Maybe the best hotel in the area. Go without hesitation!
