The apartment had so many visible problems that, when we arrived, we were surprised the agency still expected a deposit. We spent our first evening photographing and noting the damage so we wouldn't be held responsible for it later. The chairs on the upper balcony were broken and unusable, cobwebs on the windows made the cleaning seem neglected, and the upstairs banister was loose enough to feel like it could pull away from the wall. There were wood splinters plainly visible on the bed, rust and grime on the radiator, a bathroom that looked like it was from the 1970s and full of drill holes, dried food on some dishes, crumbs in the cutlery drawer, and a worn toilet seat that wobbled. A sign threatened a cleaning charge if we didn't leave the place broom-clean, despite the booking confirmation saying final cleaning was included. It felt outrageous to threaten guests with charges as a welcome, as if they'd leave the apartment in a deplorable state. The deposit was another problem from the start. The booking confirmation said there would be a reservation on our credit card, but a few days before arrival that was taken to mean we had to drive from Marina Lindaunis to Olpenitz on arrival day to pay it. After several calls pointing out how unreasonable that was after driving several hundred kilometers, we were told to give the deposit to a contact person at the apartment. After we complained, the next morning the contact person came by. She was also the cleaning lady, and I have never dealt with such an unfriendly vacation rental manager. The cleaning lady's name also appears as the reviewer of a five-star rating for this vacation rental, which makes you wonder if something is off. We won't book through this agency again.

With the bridge over the Schlei closed, it was partly because of that that the place felt so quiet and peaceful. Still, a nice spot to relax.

Even when the weather's bad, this roomy apartment is great for a family.
