Hotel An Der Karlstadt

The bathroom and facilities were okay, but nothing special. The room itself smelled like dead animals mixed with parmazan cheese that had been left out of the fridge for weeks, and the same smell was on the bedsheets and towels. Rooms are only cleaned once a week, so good luck drying off with the same towels for a whole week. Please don’t stay here.

The mattresses felt hard and springy, and I didn’t find them comfortable. Breakfast quality was a bit questionable at times, although the breakfast area had nice decor. Customer service was very good, with a family-run feel to the place.

The hosts were awful, rude and grumpy on the phone, and they couldn’t speak English despite what several booking sites said. If you’re not a native German speaker, you may be treated badly for it. They were disorganized and impolite. Save your money and nerves.

Our room was freezing cold, and I wouldn’t recommend this place. We also found a maggot in the fish salad at breakfast, which killed our appetite and made us want to leave. The man handling it didn’t apologize or say anything, just gave us a bill that still included the €18 breakfast charge. When I complained, he said the manager wasn’t in Germany and he couldn’t remove the cost, even though he’d written it on a piece of paper. Only after I got angry did he rewrite the note and take €10 off the bill. His arrogant, appalling attitude summed up the customer service for me. The hotel listing says parking is free, but there are no spaces at the hotel. You might get lucky and find a free street spot opposite, or you’ll have to drive around and pay for one.
