The way we were treated made staying there impossible. We had booked three nights with a voucher, but reception said there was no reservation when we arrived. After we showed our confirmation, the staff were extremely unfriendly and suggested we find somewhere else because the hotel wouldn’t make enough money from the vouchers. We went to the next hotel, where the staff were much friendlier. I don’t recommend Hotel Zur Igelstadt.

Breakfast was frozen food again, with cheese and salami but no fruit or other choices. Dinner was frozen food too, and you had to serve yourself if you wanted alcohol. There wasn’t even a bottle of water in the rooms, no fridge, and nothing to make tea or coffee. At 11 pm the light would go off if you wanted to smoke, and they’d tell you to go to bed because they had other events the next day. Horrible. Please don’t waste your time. By far the worst hotel I’ve ever been to. I don’t even know what to call this place, hotel is too good a name. Gruesome act. Where is the customer service?

We really enjoyed the walks and road trips around the picturesque Edersee Kellerwald region, and the weather was kind to us too. It’s a must-visit part of Germany. At Hotel Zur Igelstadt, the hotel was beautifully decorated and the people were warm and welcoming when we visited at Christmas and St Sylvester. Chef Daniel served authentic German cuisine, and we got to experience German traditions at their best. We’d definitely recommend staying there.
