Bed & Breakfast Rheiderland

The internet was very, very poor, and there weren’t proper plates to eat from. Housekeeping was mentioned, but nothing was cleaned and no cleaning supplies were available. The sheets were never changed. The heating was set very low, so the bathroom was very cold. I’m looking for another place to rent as soon as possible.

The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, and the people were kind. Still, the stay was a mess after a long drive from France toward Norway. I booked only an hour and a half before arriving. There was a big pile of garbage by the side of the house that smelled bad, and nobody was there to greet us. I had to call for access. The woman running the BNB hadn’t checked her email and didn’t know we had a reservation. With poor cell service and mobile data in the area, arranging entry took a long time. The key was in a code box labeled “sauna,” but there was no room called Sauna, so we had to call again to find out which room to use. The doors and keys should be labeled to avoid that confusion. She said she’d come over in an hour so we could pay, but arrived half an hour later than that, an hour and a half after we arrived. I’d had a long day of driving and wanted to go to bed. The website made it seem like breakfast was included, but it wasn’t. She offered cheese and bread for 8.50 euros per person, so we didn’t have breakfast. I’d hoped to take a long bath, but no water ran to the tub. The bathroom was freezing, and to shower without freezing we had to climb onto the tub’s side, about two feet off the floor, and shut an open window. That felt ridiculous and dangerous. The shower was poorly designed and sprayed so much water onto the floor that the bath mat got soaked and we needed another towel. It was a real fall hazard. There was a patio door when we arrived, and when we stepped out to look around, it came off its hinges and couldn’t be put back. It wouldn’t latch tightly, so the room got cold. Someone came to fix it at 10:30 p.m., well past my bedtime.

We had such a peaceful, relaxing stay, and the breakfast in the morning was lovely. The rooms are spacious and elegant, and the host and hotel are absolutely beautiful. Thanks so much for a great experience. Five stars and more!
