Most troubling was the feeling of being watched: the host came into the flat without telling us, and the stay felt uncomfortable. Their public response afterward was hostile and dismissive instead of opening a constructive conversation. We had booked one room in a listing described as a shared apartment, but no other guests were there. We were then criticized for supposedly taking up the whole flat, though that wasn't our intention and wasn't what the booking details said. The host also made assumptions about personal matters, including the car we arrived in, and said we were wasteful with the air conditioning. We only used it as seemed necessary to be comfortable. If the systems needed special handling, clearer instructions would have helped. We arrived with high hopes, but didn't feel safe, welcome, or respected.

The location worked really well for visiting Shaffhausen, with the Rhine Falls, munot, and museum, and Stein am Rein, a beautiful city with buildings covered in wonderful historical art. This was the best reasonably priced Gästehaus we found while traveling around Switzerland and into each country. Our family of five felt at home. The owners were very accommodating, and the balcony had nice views. It was a little cold, though the weather at the time was a factor, and they helped with extra heating, which was unexpected and much appreciated. We'd gotten used to buffets, so having to cook took some adjustment, but the dwelling had all the equipment we needed.

The hospitality was so warm, and the accommodation was clean and comfortable. One of the best hotels I've stayed in. I strongly recommend it.
