Hotel zur Altstadt

The location right in the city centre is fantastic, but getting to the rooms means tackling some difficult stairs. We had a mix-up over the room choice made through another platform, so we didn't stay the night after all. When we went into the room on the second floor, it had a very old, musty smell. The duvets were flimsy and extremely thin, and the bathroom was tiny. In one room, the sink was actually in the bedroom, with just the toilet and shower behind the bathroom door. The rooms were in terrible condition: the wallpaper border was coming away from the wall, the ceiling trim was unfinished and didn't meet at the corners, and the furniture was very old and didn't look clean. The night before, we paid for a much better hotel elsewhere. There was no comparison.

A small hotel in an old half-timbered house. There aren't many rooms, and the facilities are simple but adequate.

We could leave our bikes in the stairwell, which was handy after our ride. Breakfast was excellent, and our small room suited us well enough for one night. It's a nice little hotel in Celle's old town.

The owner was especially helpful and accommodating, and the hotel sits right in the pedestrian zone, a great spot for exploring the city. It's charming, simply but lovingly furnished, and fairly priced. I was disappointed that the much-praised breakfast wasn't available during my stay, though I quickly found another option across the street.
