CityClass Hotel Alter Markt

Our room overlooked the Dom, which was lovely, and it was clean and comfortable. There was plenty of space, plus a mini fridge with free bottled water, a kettle, and an ironing board. The elevator needed a room key, which felt secure. There wasn't a luggage rack for large bags, though, and the air conditioning was hard to figure out. I first thought it was broken, then thought it might be working, so I'm still not sure. At night the room felt a bit dark, especially around the bed. The walls slope, so watch your head if you're on the side beneath one 😅. The shower pressure wasn't very strong either. The hotel is on the alter markt and step free, unlike the other cityclass branch around the corner, which had a few stairs. It's about a 10 minute walk from the station and a few minutes from the dom. I managed with my luggage, although some stretches had cobblestones that were hard to avoid. Staff were friendly, and I had a nice, comfortable stay.

We spent just one night in Cologne and were glad we chose this hotel. The room was clean, though on the small side, which I understand given the prime location. A Christmas market right outside gave us a lovely festive feeling. Catching the Christmas market trains by the entrance also made it easy to get around the city.

The bed and chair were comfortable, and the bathroom was practical, with enough storage. I was glad they provided a sheet to use instead of the much-too-heavy duvet. Breakfast is available separately and looked like a good option if you feel like a big meal.

The location is extremely close to the Kölner Dom, and everything we wanted to see was an easy walk away. Parking nearby is a nightmare, but seeing the Dom makes it worth dealing with. After staying at a few other German hotels, this one exceeded my expectations. The staff were friendly, spoke English, and were very helpful. It was very clean and well stocked, and the price was reasonable for such a central spot.
